GQ MAGAZINE, ANNOTATED AND LIIAR ANANLYSIS


Language – Robert Pattinson is the main focus on this magazine as it covers the majority of the front cover. He is looking directly into the camera, this shows that he is making eye contact with the reader. The shot used is a medium close up shot. Robert is dressed in a very smart suit, this gives the impression that the magazine is for maybe business men and successful men. The design of the magazine also reflects its audience because the colours are very manly colours such as blues, whites and red’s. Most of the small features and story lines appear on the third left.  The smaller features/ story lines are used on the front cover to give the reader a little taste of what is held inside the magazine.
Institutions – The editors of the magazine are Dylan Jones, Everett Matttlin, Jack Haber, Art Cooper and Jim Nelson. The first issue was released in 1957. GQ magazine is based in the USA although you can purchase it from England. The magazine is only produced monthly, it is not an daily or weekly magazine.
Ideology – GQ is a monthly men's magazine focusing on fashion, style, and culture for men, through articles on food, movies, fitness, sex, music, travel, sports, technology, and books. The audience can purchase this magazine every month for the price of £3.30. The main editor Dylan Jones tries to project his own lifestyle through the magazine well sending a subliminal message that this is how men should spend their lives, how to act, dress, what cars to drive and what gadgets to have. Dylan Jones is trying to send over an ideology that all men should be well groomed, smooth and sleek.
Audience – Because GQ magazine is a men’s lifestyle magazine, the target audience is men aged between 24 -54. The magazine is for active, successful, intelligent men who want to make the most of their physical, professional and emotional lives.
Representation – The representation of this magazine is that it wants to provide men with an insight of how to have the perfect life. It gives men tips on what to wear, what to drive and how to live etc. The cover of this represents men as being intelligent, smart and successful, and that if any males see their selves as wanting a life like the men in the magazine, they should read it to find out how.
