Q MUSIC MAGAZINE AND LIIAR ANALYSIS
Language - The magazines logo is situated in the top left hand corner of the cover, it's bold and red so it stands out from the other features, the magazine's logo is also it's masthead. Lady Gaga is the main image on this cover, she is a well known and popular artists in the music industry. This magazine cover has a skyline at the very top telling the reader that is is 'The UK's biggest music magazine'. Spread out around the cover are small features which appear inside and there is also a splash graphic containing extra information. As like this cover, the barcode is in the bottom right hand corner, around the barcode is the price, issue number and date. There is also a screamer in the third left of the magazine.
Ideology - The UK's biggest selling monthly music magazine, Q is the arbiter of quality music. The magazine sits at the heart of the cross-platform brand that discovers great music of substance for its consumers. The Q brand has developed a worldwide reputation as a trusted and premium quality voice of musical authority amongst fans, musicians and the music industry alike - one that is founded upon Q's unrivaled access, world-beating exclusives and outstanding production values. This reputation is extended not only through the magazine but also across online, radio, TV and on into Q's unique events, which encompass exclusive, intimate live shows with major stars and the world famous annual Q awards.Institutions - The editor of Q magaizne is Paul Reed former editor of the UK version Kerrang! Q magazine also has a radio station and a website which aslo provide readers with the lastests updates.
Audience - They have a readership of 120,000, Q's audience is composed of passionate, engaged and open minded music fans driven to continually discover new music and to use this lust for discovery to influence their friends. The audience is split 75% male to 25% female and is affluent with 68% ABC1.
Representation - This particular Q magazine cover represents how Lady Gaga has risen throughout fame and the music industry, we know this because of the main story title which is 'Lady Gaga, HAS RISEN', so this gives us the impression that she's working her way up in the world. The cover also represents other music artists.
VIBE MUSIC MAGAZINE AND LIIAR ANALYSIS
Language -One of the things that VIBE consistently does throughout their various editions of magazine is that they will always use the large, bold and thick title VIBE. Also this form of title is one that is used with other music magazines such as ‘NME’ this clearly demonstrates that a large title must be a lot more appealing to the audience. Also VIBE will have one or more famous artists on the front of their cover; more often than not the artists they use are generally hip-hop, rap and R&B. This immediately shows to the reader what type of magazine it is just from its front cover, making it very clear from the front that the magazine is based on music, specifically in the Hip-Hop, Rap & RnB area. VIBE have made the image of the artist/s the largest one on the magazine cover, this demonstrates that they want to make it clear to the reader what the magazine will specify in for its best and main story. The purpose in doing this is that VIBE believes in they promote their most interesting story on the front cover and give the reader just a taste of what is inside.
Institutions - With VIBE I feel it has more an aim to entertain rather than inform. I feel a magazine which reviews charts and new releases would be a more informative magazine however VIBE includes articles such as stories from Eminem, who is a large Hip-Hop artist. He's put articles such as this in not to inform the reader but entertain them with his conversation, the magazine is publicised in a fashionable way with slang and a hip hop feel to it. It really is in its genre of music with artists famous in the genre all over the magazine with an adopted attitude which follows the genre.
Ideology - The ideology of this magazine is for new and alternative music to be portrayed to the public along with American Billboard chart music. They want the music scene to be "fresh".
Audience- Clearly this type of magazine is not aimed at an older aged people; I feel this magazine would be aimed at the 16-27 age group. My reasoning for this is that Eminem is an artist of a recent era, this instantly shows us that the magazine is formed around that genre of music, and everybody knows what genre of music these artists perform. With the audience I also feel that this edition is portrayed towards a male market, we can see this from the intimidating pose that Eminem has where he is staring straight into the lens of the camera. To be fair I highly doubt that many females would be interested in the intimidating glare towards the camera; this is why I feel the magazine is aimed towards a male market. Although women maybe a fan of Eminems music and would like to read this issue. Clearly the magazine offers inside information for fans interested in the hip-hop / rap genre. With the presentation of Eminemn it instantly tells us the genre of the magazine, the style and the information inside, I feel VIBE have portrayed themself in outstanding way to capture the eye of their target audience.
Representations - For this music magazine VIBE chose 50 cent and Eminem for their front cover. They are both represented in an intimidating and aggressive way, with both artists leaning forwards, wearing plenty of shiny, most likely expensive jewellery with a hard stare into the lens of the camera. Eminem and 50 cent are very close artists, if anybody is a true hip-hop or rap fan, they should know that Eminem kicked off 50 cents career, this gives VIBE the right to say ‘A conversations between brothers’ – because with their target audience being fans of this genre of music, they should be aware what the subliminal message is with that text.
NME MUSIC MAGAZINE AND LIIAR ANALYSIS
Language - The masthead for the NME magazine is recognisable as it is very popular. It stands out on the cover as it is bold, red and white, these colours stand off the cover as The Wombats are mainly wearing darker clothing. The sell line also appears under the masthead. The font and writing on the cover is pretty much all in the same font. The masthead and in this case the main feature are in a larger font as it is the one piece of writing which needs to stand out on the cover most. This magazine cover uses a splash to promote a tribute session. Also on this cover is a bar code and date and small features which are included within the magazine. On the top of the cover features a skyline informing the reader which acts are preforming at Glasto. There are also small features and kickers,
Ideology - NME is a weekly magazine that's a must for right–thinking music fans. And very wrong–thinking music fans. We have the best access to your favourite bands. We have the greatest music writing and photography. NME has become a truly unique multi-platform media proposition. Across the magazine, nme.com, NMETV, NME Radio and the brand's live events and awards, NME reaches over one million music fans every week. NME is the longest published and most respected music weekly in the world. Every week it gives its readers the most exciting, most authoritative coverage of the very best in contemporary music, including award winning features, the latest releases, live reviews, the definitive guide to the best new bands in its Radar section, as well as a regular look back through the magazine's incredible 58 year heritage. Institutions - Editor: Krissi Murison. Publishing Director: Paul Cheal. Publisher:Tracy Cheesman
Audience - male/female 73% / 27%, the average age for the NME music magazine is 25 and the target market is men aged 17- 30. ABC1 - 73%
Representation - This magazine cover represents indie fans and what they love and who are passionate about music. They show pictures of the latest gigs and have reviews on them and interviews with band members, also they have pictures of bands and information about upcoming gigs and how to get your hands on tickets, it’s mainly a positive representation.

EVALUATION FOR MY COLLEGE MAGAZINE - 'OVERLOOKED'
Evaluation for ‘OVERLOOKED’ college magazine.
To make sure I attracted my audience, I asked a group of peers both male and female what they would like to be included in a college magazine. The males wanted it to contain information on the latest updates of the sports teams and the females wanted it to give them information on when the social events and parties where taking place. I used both these interests as ideas for the stories and headlines within the magazine. This shows research that I have being around the college to find likes and dislikes.
The target audience for my magazine is college students between the ages of 16-19. The magazine will provide students with the updates of college, when, where and what events where taking places. However, even though it is aimed at students, if teachers are interested in what events are taking place within the college, then this magazine will provide them with this information.
My magazine has been specifically produced to represent college students as being socially active as well as progressing their education. I have chosen a smiley student to attract the audience. The student was quite shy but I gave her the confidence to just smile through her shyness.
'OVERLOOKED' uses conventions of real media products, as on the cover I have used a variety of conventions, these include a masthead at the very top of my magazine, the date of the magazine which is above the barcode, the issue number above the barcode, a bar code in the bottom left hand corner, a teaser also a main feature headline, small features down the left third, a medium close-up of a student in full colour and also different font and sizes.
I found constructing this magazine relatively easy, as I have had plenty of practice using Photo shop from the previous task. I now feel more confident that I can do well when producing a task with it. Having to produce a plan and notes on Prezi was quite difficult as this piece of media was new to me. I believe that I need more practise using it for future usage. To take my photographs I used a 14mega pixel compact digital camera with flash, this made my photos look high quality and clear.

AUDIENCE'S FEEDBACK OF MAGAZINE - 'OVERLOOKED'

This picture has it's advantages and disadvantages.
Advantages : - Jenny is looking straight into the camera.
- Her dark top stands out from the grey lockers.
Disadvantages: - Jenny is connecting with the audience through her eyes, but her facial expression is not as powerful, her smile should have being bigger to show that she enjoys college.
- The angle of the camera does not look completely head on because the lockers in the back ground are not straight.
- her pose appears to make her look not ready and uncomfortable.
- The flash wasn't on

GQ MAGAZINE, ANNOTATED AND LIIAR ANANLYSIS
Language – Robert Pattinson is the main focus on this magazine as it covers the majority of the front cover. He is looking directly into the camera, this shows that he is making eye contact with the reader. The shot used is a medium close up shot. Robert is dressed in a very smart suit, this gives the impression that the magazine is for maybe business men and successful men. The design of the magazine also reflects its audience because the colours are very manly colours such as blues, whites and red’s. Most of the small features and story lines appear on the third left. The smaller features/ story lines are used on the front cover to give the reader a little taste of what is held inside the magazine.
Institutions – The editors of the magazine are Dylan Jones, Everett Matttlin, Jack Haber, Art Cooper and Jim Nelson. The first issue was released in 1957. GQ magazine is based in the USA although you can purchase it from England. The magazine is only produced monthly, it is not an daily or weekly magazine.
Ideology – GQ is a monthly men's magazine focusing on fashion, style, and culture for men, through articles on food, movies, fitness, sex, music, travel, sports, technology, and books. The audience can purchase this magazine every month for the price of £3.30. The main editor Dylan Jones tries to project his own lifestyle through the magazine well sending a subliminal message that this is how men should spend their lives, how to act, dress, what cars to drive and what gadgets to have. Dylan Jones is trying to send over an ideology that all men should be well groomed, smooth and sleek.
Audience – Because GQ magazine is a men’s lifestyle magazine, the target audience is men aged between 24 -54. The magazine is for active, successful, intelligent men who want to make the most of their physical, professional and emotional lives.
Representation – The representation of this magazine is that it wants to provide men with an insight of how to have the perfect life. It gives men tips on what to wear, what to drive and how to live etc. The cover of this represents men as being intelligent, smart and successful, and that if any males see their selves as wanting a life like the men in the magazine, they should read it to find out how.
COLLEGE MAGAZINE ANNOTATION AND LIIAR ANALYSIS
Language – The model in the photograph is making contact with the reader as he is looking directly into the camera, this is so that the reader feels more connected with the model and making them feels more involved with that student lifestyle and also the magazine. The model is also stood in a relaxed standing position at a mid length shot, this could give the reader the impression that the college is also relaxed. The repetitive font used on the front cover is sans serif. The masthead ‘College’ is in sans serif, this means that the font is bold and large, the title is also in the colour yellow. The majority of the storylines and subtitles are placed on the third left and the third right, this is because when you pick up a magazine in the shop you either pick it up from the right or from the left. The smaller features which are placed on the front cover, give the reader a sneaky insight of what goes on within the college, this makes the reader want to read more about the college.
Institutions - College lifestyle magazine is a company based in the Caribbean who produce printed copies of college lifestyle magazine four times a year to people living in the Caribbean, USA and Canada. It’s available to the rest of the world on their website collegelifestylemag.com. The magazine is produced in the spring, summer, autumn and winter and it is distributed to shops, news stands, service stations and it is sold for US $ 4.95 a copy.
Ideology – The magazine provides the reader with an insight on college life and how you can benefit from attending that college. The magazine cover shows the student with a smile and a welcoming presence when holding his study books, this gives the impression that the education is at a high standard and is fun to attend.
Audience - Mobile Gen-Y youth who’re wanting to go to college or are currently attending college, even students who have recently graduated college.
Representation – One representation would be that the college is a happy and joyful place to be, as the student on the front shows this with his impression and another would be the representation of the college by the subtitles which shows what you can do within the college.

PRELIMINARY BRIEF
Using DTP and an image manipulation program, I have to produce the front page of a new college magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in medium close-up some approriatley laid-out text and a masthead. Additionally I must produce a mock-up of the layout of the contents page to demonstrate my grasp of DTP.
